Chevy Astro ADJUSTABLE DISTRIBUTOR How To, HUGE IMPROVEMENT!
THIS IS IT! Have you had constant distributor issues on your Astro Van? Does your GMC Safari chew through Caps and Rotors? HERE IS THE FIX!!!! (I think?) My Astro would get about 3-5k miles out of a cap and rotor before I'd have to replace them, no matter what brand I used, and it was driving me insane! In a previous video I showed you how to replace your distributor with a billet unit: • Astro Van Won't Start: Distributor Disease... I think this did help reduce slop, but it wasn't enough. For some reason the distributor system in the 4.3L Vortec is not adjustable, and it relies on the crank position sensor and ECU to make adjustments, so the factory clamp doesn't allow you to rotate it at all. What I think is happening is the timing chain stretches over the life of the engine, and the firing of the spark gets a little bit more and more behind, which means it's getting longer and longer making any small amount of corrosion cause a no-start condition. By adjusting the distributor, you can make the points on the cap way closer to the rotor when it's firing, which should hopefully, FINALLY solve the problem! The upside is it should also increase the spark to each plug, resulting in a slight improvement to power and efficiency. Since completing this mod, I have achieved the BEST highway MPG I have ever had on this van, getting 14.5mpg instead of 13.5ish. 00:00 Intro 00:34 Symptoms 02:10 Why 03:03 Clamp Mods 03:45 Cap Mods 04:20 Testing 05:09 Results #distributor #astro #vortec
