This time, I'll be sharing my experience of Florence's Easter celebrations following the Great Explosion (called Pasqua in Italy). This year's Easter was held on April 5th. I went to see the traditional parade, Lo scoppio del Carro e il volo della Colombina (The Explosion of the Carriage and the Flight of the Doves), held at Florence Cathedral. At 8 AM, the floats, called Brindellone, departed from a warehouse near Porta al Prato, a little outside the city center, and marched to the Cathedral. After watching them reach the Cathedral, we returned home for lunch at Edoardo's house. We all enjoyed a delicious home-cooked meal prepared by Edoardo's mother. We then watched the news on TV to see what happened with the subsequent explosion ceremony. Did the doves, called Colombina, ignite the floats, and did the fireworks explode as planned? This is how we predict Florence's luck for the year.
