Tony Christlieb's Reedmachines
Tony takes us through the process of cane selection and all of the various stages of dry processing gouging, shaping and profiling. These machines have never been shown to the public. What we know is that the profiler was a prototype for Wendal Jones whose son designed more modern machines for commercial reed blank production. I have ordered cane from Don and Tony Christlieb for over 45 years in my career and cannot find anything else that compares to the quality and consistency. The legacy would be either better served if it were acquired by a foundation capable of historical preservation or an enthusiastic reed maker with enough funds to continue its operation.
