Adrian Underhill at the IH Toruń International Teacher Training Day 2017

Adrian Underhill gives his plenary entitled "Pronunciatiion: The Cinderella of ELT" at the IH Toruń International Teacher Training Day on Saturday 25th March 2017. Abstract (by Adrian Underhill): "Unlike grammar and vocabulary, pronunciation is not fully integrated into language learning. In this highly participatory presentation; I will propose two solutions which I will demonstrate in a hands-on-lessons, showing how to liberate learners from the 'grip' of their mother tongue pronunciation, how to reconnect with the muscles that make the pronunciation difference, and how to feel greater confidence as the teacher. I wil lillustrate how to use the phonemic chart as a mental map to guide this process." Bio: Adrian Underhill is a trainer, consultant, author and speaker. He's also the past President of IATEFL, current IATEFL ambassador, and series editor of Macmillan Books for Teachers. He is the author of 'Sound Foundations: Learning and Teaching Pronunciation", and the app "Sounds: The Pronunciation App". He's interested in teacher as leaders, in how they organise in complex and difficult settings, and in the emerging forms of leadership that addres this. He's currently exploring the role of improvisation, playfulness and intuition in how we learn.
