🗾 The Meishin Expressway (E1) is Japan’s first full-scale expressway, developed in the 1960s as a core route connecting the Kansai and Chūkyō regions. This video documents the section from Takatsuki Junction in Takatsuki City, Osaka Prefecture, to Kusatsu Junction in Kusatsu City, Shiga Prefecture, where the route connects to the Shin-Meishin Expressway. After departing Takatsuki JCT, the expressway runs along the right bank of the Yodo River, passing through Shimamoto Town, Oyamazaki Town, Nagaokakyō City, and Mukō City before entering the southern part of Kyoto City. This urban-adjacent section is one of the busiest on the Meishin Expressway, with closely spaced interchanges serving as key access points to the metropolitan area. Leaving Kyoto City, the route enters Ōtsu City in Shiga Prefecture and continues through urban areas close to Lake Biwa. After passing Ōtsu Service Area and Seta-nishi IC, the drive reaches Kusatsu Junction, where it connects to the Shin-Meishin Expressway and leads into the next video. Filmed in September 2025.
