BAEN Webinar_Student Engagement Session_Professor Layal Hakim_University of Exeter
This presentation explores student engagement in the learning and teaching of mathematics. It draws on outcomes from two projects: a Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) course with Monterrey University focussed on mathematics learning habits, and research informed by Kahneman’s book Thinking, Fast and Slow, interpreted through a mathematics education lens. The work demonstrates how varied teaching approaches, such as guided problem solving, and structured reflection, alongside using varied modes of assessments can support deeper engagement and independence in mathematics learning across different contexts. Speaker: Prof. Layal Hakim (University of Exeter, Director of Education and Student Experience)
