This video details a guide that can be used to help determine how effective a particular exercise is for hypertrophy, strength, and/or performance. As you’ll see, there are three different types of clues or “puzzle pieces” that we can rely upon to inform us: those based on common sense and sensation, those that provide numerical data, and those involving training interventions. Common sense and numerical data generate hypotheses, whereas longitudinal experiments test theories. All clues contain massive flaws and inherent limitations, which is precisely why multiple puzzle pieces should be utilized to ascertain the big picture.
