Diving for Ghost Traps with Oceanswide

The seafloor off the Maine coast is littered with thousands of abandoned lobster traps and one organization is working with lobstermen to dive down and clean them up. Whether from weather, boat traffic, or hostilities between fishermen, thousands of these plastic-coated metal traps end up on the seafloor every year. These traps break down slowly and pile up so much that they stop the active traps from fishing effectively, and begin to pollute the environment with plastic scraps. Oceanswide has partnered with local Maine lobstermen and non-profits to dive in and help clean up the Gulf of Maine.
