A bank robbery occurred in Banqiao District, New Taipei City, at approximately 10:00 AM today (17th). A 50-year-old man surnamed Wang first went to a nearby dumpling shop to inquire about knives. After being refused by the shopkeeper, he seized the opportunity to steal scissors from the table. He then stormed into the bank, threatening the bank staff with the scissors, shouting "Give me your money!" and intimidating bystanders. To prevent further harm, the bank staff handed over NT$404,200 in cash. Police responded quickly to the report, immediately ordering the suspect to lie down and subduing him before arresting him. All the stolen money was recovered. According to reports, Wang confessed that he committed the crime on impulse because he was unemployed, short of money, and hungry. He even stayed at the scene to count the money instead of fleeing immediately after the robbery. Further investigations revealed that the suspect has multiple prior convictions for theft and robbery and had only recently been released on parole. Now, having committed another serious crime, his parole may be revoked, and he may face even harsher penalties due to his repeat offender status.
