On the evening of March 11, 2023, the Siegen-Wittgenstein police were alerted to Freudenberg because 12-year-old Luise F. did not arrive at home on Tillmann-Siebel-Strasse after she left Kleintirolerstrasse at around 5:30 p.m. and walked off a friend. In addition, the mobile phone she had brought with her was switched off, although the battery had about 30% left when she left the address. There was no information as to the reason for the disappearance. Therefore, an extensive search was started between the Hohenhain hiking car park down the valley in the direction of the Bethesda hospital, in which several mantrailer and rescue dogs were also involved, which first met at the Freudenberg motorway police station and then successively moved out to the search areas assigned to them. The police helicopter Hummel 1 and two drones from the German Life Saving Society DLRG and the Technical Relief Agency THW were also involved in the search. The police published a description of the person with a picture in the morning. At least one hundred-strong squad from Cologne supported the search from the morning. In the morning, police forces in Siegen found a female body not far from the cycle path between the Hohenhainer Tunnel and the Wildenburg train station. Initially, according to the police, it was not clear whether it was the missing person at all. However, the search was not continued. It was only more than six hours later that it was clear that it was Luise. For reasons of investigative tactics, no information can yet be given about the cause of death. Since the body had already been found in Rhineland-Palatinate, the Koblenz police took over the further investigation. The THW illuminated the crime scene. From 7:00 p.m., the evangelical church called for a prayer service for Luise. Lessons were held in Luise's school the following day, but psychologists offered to talk to their classmates. In addition, mourning flags were ordered. At 10:34 a.m., the Koblenz police announced that the investigations carried out so far confirm the suspicion that the girl was the victim of a homicide. There is currently no evidence of a sexual offense. An autopsy was performed on the body on Monday to determine the cause of death.
