Pacific Green Sea Turtles in Long Beach

Welcome back to the channel! In this video, we are heading out on an urban safari right here in Long Beach. Believe it or not, you don’t have to travel to a tropical island to see wild Pacific green sea turtles—they are living and thriving right in our local concrete river channels! We packed up, hopped on our favorite wheels, and hit the bike trails to see if we could spot them ourselves. It is one of the coolest wildlife recovery stories in Southern California. These incredible sea turtles migrate thousands of miles from their nesting beaches in Mexico, eventually swimming up into the warm waters near the mouth of the San Gabriel River. We spent the day hanging out by the water, keeping our eyes peeled, and waiting for them to pop their heads up for a breath of air. If you want to experience this unique local spot for yourself, we’ve laid out the exact route below. Don't forget to smash that like button and hit subscribe for more adventures on the road! How to Get There: El Dorado Park to the Sea Turtles This route takes you entirely along the San Gabriel River Bike Trail from El Dorado Regional Park down to the turtle viewing zone near the bottom of the channel. Starting Point: Hop on the San Gabriel River Bike Trail from El Dorado Regional Park. Head South on the trail with the river channel on your right. The Critical Fork: As you continue south, keep an eye out for the fork in the road just before you reach the first bridge. The Turn: At that fork, stay to the right. Do not cross the bridge; instead, take the ramp that leads down toward the river level. Arrival: Follow that ramp all the way down to the bottom of the channel. Once you reach the bottom, go all the way to the back and you’re in the prime spot for the sea turtles! #SeaTurtles#LongBeach#SanGabrielRiver#Turtles
