One of the most popular lighting options is white light fixtures. Although they don't have a significantly lower YPFD (absorption efficiency) for plants, they are quite affordable, and high-quality LEDs offer good lumens per watt. But is white light really effective for plants? After all, they require more red and blue light for photosynthesis. And what does white light have to do with it then? In fact, white light is a rather complex or mixed light flux, containing all spectrums, from ultraviolet to infrared. Including blue and red. So if the question is, can you supplement with white light? Of course you can! But here we also need to figure out what kind of white light! The thing is, they differ in luminosity temperature. There are different temperatures: 2100-3000K is warm light, which has a lot of red; the warmer the light, the more red!!! 4000K is neutral light, which contains both red and green, and blue more or less evenly. 5000-6100K is cool light, which usually has a lot of blue, less red and green. So, depending on the plant, different light is more suitable for them. For example, cool light is good for growing salads and greens, while warm light, even very warm, is best for flowering plants. Experience shows that HPS lamps with a warm spectrum of around 2100K are excellent for growing such plants. But they also consume a ton of electricity, and greenhouse giants are now replacing them with LEDs. By the way, one question many would like to hear is how many micromoles are in white light? If we use lux (this indicator can be measured independently using a simple lux meter), then white light, converted to micromoles, can easily be calculated as 15 μmol per 1000 lux of illumination...
