Just a short ferry ride from Auckland’s downtown, Rangitoto is the city’s youngest volcano and a classic local adventure spot. Spent the day weaving through lava fields, crawling through old lava caves, spotting native birds, and peeking inside old WWII bunkers and a few quirky seaside baches that still stand on the shore.
