Open hour on the Second Order Draft Review of the Special Report on Climate Change and Cities
Participating in the IPCC Process: Open hour on the Second Order Draft Review of the Special Report on Climate Change and Cities Speakers: Bart van den Hurk, IPCC WGII Co-Chair Andrew Okem, IPCC WGII TSU Anna Pirani, CMCC and IPCC Focal Point Alternate The Government and Expert Review of the Second Order Draft (SOD) of the IPCC Special Report on Climate Change and Cities is open from 8 May to 3 July 2026. This open hour will provide an overview of the IPCC review process and support experts in contributing to the review of the Special Report. The session will explain the role of expert and government reviews within the IPCC assessment cycle, the differences between First and Second Order Draft reviews, and how experts can effectively contribute. The SOD will include the first draft of the Summary for Policymakers (SPM) and we will discuss how this is drafted based on the Special Report assessment outcomes and how to review the SPM alongside the chapters. Particular attention will be given to how review comments can effectively support the scientific robustness, balance, traceability and policy relevance of IPCC assessments and how they are presented in the SPM, while respecting the scope and structure of the report. The webinar will also provide practical guidance on registering and providing review comments. The event is open to researchers, practitioners, policymakers and all experts interested in contributing to the IPCC assessment process and strengthening the science–policy interface on climate change and cities
