Retro 071 & RPSI Steam loco No. 171 on Father's Day Specials to Maynooth - Sunday 21st June 2026

On Sunday, 21 June 2026, the longest day of the year, the Railway Preservation Society of Ireland operated special Father’s Day excursions to Maynooth. The trains were originally planned to be steam-hauled throughout the day. However, after steam locomotive No. 171 developed issues that morning, it was unable to work the first trip to Maynooth. In its place, Retro 071, which had earlier worked the Craven coach transfer from Inchicore, was quickly drafted in to haul the morning run. By the afternoon, the issues with No. 171 had been resolved, allowing the locomotive to take charge of the second excursion to Maynooth as originally intended.
