Jasper Johns: Repeat, Revise, Reflect
For the better part of the last century, Jasper Johns has sought to challenge the way we interpret the world. In this episode of Expert Voices, Sotheby’s specialist Chanler Rutherfurd illustrates how Johns reexamines the familiar through his exceptional prints. Johns’ works Flag I, Flag II, Flag III: Four Prints as well as Ale Cans exemplify the artist’s fixation with altering the meaning of compositions by changing their mediums. Flag I, Flag II, Flag III: Four Prints and Ale Cans will be offered as highlights in Sotheby’s Important Prints and Multiples Evening Sale. (24 October | New York)
