Castillo de Xivert, Spain

Castillo de Xivert - templar fortress in the province of Castellón. It was built on a rocky hill on the west side of the Irta range, overlooking the Alcala de Xivert plain. It is located on the southwestern slope of the Sierra de Irta. Of Muslim origin, it was built at 11th - 12th centuries. After the reconquest of the place by the Christian troops commanded by the Order of the Temple, it underwent modifications which are still visible today, such as the separation of the castle and the village by a wall, its imposing stone ramparts and its two circular towers.
