‘It’s wrong, it borders on insulting’: Tony Abbott on Welcome to Country on Anzac Day
Former prime minister Tony Abbott weighs in on Welcome to Country ceremonies taking place on Anzac Day following the recent booing controversy. “My problem with Welcome to Country is that it implies … that the country belongs to some of us more than all of us,” Mr Abbott told Sky News host Peta Credlin. “For someone to stand up on Anzac Day and say to the service personnel who have fought for our country … well, actually it’s not your country, it’s our country. “I just think it is wrong; it borders on the insulting.”
