Energy markets are witnessing a decline in oil prices to their lowest levels since before the outbreak of war, with West Texas Intermediate crude falling to around $69 a barrel, amid signs of improved shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz and an increase in oil tanker transits. Shipping data shows a rise in the number of ships transiting the strait after the opening of a temporary route in coordination with the Sultanate of Oman and the International Maritime Organization, at a time when insurance costs for ships have decreased by more than 50%. Meanwhile, positions diverge between American assurances of guaranteeing the flow of oil through the strait and Iranian warnings against sailing outside designated routes, as the debate continues regarding the management of maritime routes and global trade through Hormuz.
