What about when a patient has Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMD) and their occlusion is poor? We must first treat their TMD, eliminate all signs and symptoms, and only then evaluate their occlusion. We cannot alter the occlusion of a patient whose TMJ is possibly destabilized; the chance of losing that work is high. But once that joint is stabilized, we can evaluate and adjust that occlusion.
