Des établissements humains de 20 000 ans en Oregon repoussent l'origine humaine !

18,250 years old. That's the age of the blood found on a stone knife unearthed from the Oregon desert. The blood of a bison that disappeared thousands of years ago—discovered on a tool that shouldn't even exist. Because according to everything we were taught in school and college, there were no humans in North America 18,000 years ago. There was no one to hold that knife, hunt with that knife, cut meat with it. And yet, someone did. And that person left behind a trace that is now rewriting the entire story of the peopling of the Americas. This isn't speculation. This isn't a theory. This is solid data from one of the most important archaeological sites discovered in the 21st century—Rimrock Draw Rockshelter, in Harney County, in the heart of the eastern Oregon desert. Two independent laboratories, two separate radiocarbon analyses—in 2018 and 2023—yielded the same result. And the tool bearing traces of the blood of an extinct bison lies even deeper in the ground than the dated bones. Which, in archaeology, means only one thing: it is older than them. By how much? We don't yet know. Because no one has yet reached the bottom of this site. To understand the significance of this single figure—18,250 years—we need to know what textbooks were saying just thirty years ago. The answer was simple and elegant: the first humans arrived in North America around 13,000 years ago. They crossed from Siberia to Alaska via the Beringian land bridge, which appeared during the Ice Age when sea levels were several tens of meters lower. Then they headed south along the only possible route—an ice-free corridor, a narrow passage between two gigantic glaciers covering Canada. These people left behind distinctive stone spear points, discovered in the 1930s near the town of Clovis, New Mexico. The entire theory took its name from this town—Clovis First—and it dominated American archaeology for more than half a century as a veritable dogma. Anyone who questioned Clovis First risked their career. The strength of this theory was also its fatal weakness. The entire model rested on a single assumption: the glacial corridor opened just before the arrival of the Clovis humans, and the Clovis humans appeared just after the corridor opened. A house of cards. All it took was finding a single human being, in a single place, at a single time, who didn't fit this pattern—and the whole construct would collapse. Rimrock Draw is precisely such a place. But it's not the only one. In White Sands National Park, New Mexico, in the dry bed of prehistoric Lake Otero, archaeologists have unearthed something astonishing—fossilized human footprints. Hello!
