Stop Singing Like This | 5 Vocal Mistakes I See All the Time

Most singers don’t struggle because they lack talent — they struggle because they’re unknowingly fighting their own vocal system. In this video, I break down five of the most common vocal mistakes I see in my students and all over YouTube — especially with singers who sing and play guitar. These issues don’t just limit your range… they create tension, inconsistency, and frustration with your voice. I use a Chris Cornell / “Like a Stone” example to show how powerful, expressive singing actually comes from efficiency, not force. In this video, we cover: • Singing the way you think you’re supposed to sound • Tension in the jaw, tongue, and face • What happens when the larynx rises on high notes • Poor breath control (and why “taking a big breath” isn’t enough) • Why vocal warmups don’t work if technique is off This video is about awareness — not fixing everything in one sitting.
