Guided Meditation: Shamatha - Calm Abiding for the Wild Mind
Shamatha - Calm Abiding for the Wild Mind This practice sets out from the beginning of developing calm abiding. Use this practice to go back to basics and establish the foundations of following the breath to cultivate tranquility (you can use this same practice with a different meditation object if you prefer something other than the breath). To start we will go through the steps of relaxing and settling into a meditation posture, checking in with present moment experience, bringing awareness to the body, and then bringing attention to the breath. From here you are encouraged to really appreciate the "a ha" moment when you realise your attention has moved and to gently return. Doing this over and over is the core of the practice, each time you intend to notice and come back you are training the mind. These steps allow you to cultivate comfort, ease, and stability to find calm abiding in the here and now.
