A 29-ton Kranex excavator with narrow tracks was used to develop land in the village of Sinyovo in the Priozersk District of the Leningrad Region. Beneath the dried peat soil was a 3-meter-thick layer of blue clay (a very viscous substance). During the work, the excavator was on the verge of getting stuck. Several days of rain had altered the soil, and the peat soil had become saturated. After heavy rains on the first day of work, the excavator became stuck. When attempting to move out under its own power, the tracks slipped, causing the excavator to sink deeper and deeper, eventually landing on its frame. The excavator was unable to pull itself out with its bucket because its hydraulic system couldn't handle the heavy load. Management decided to bring in a 20-ton Hyundai excavator with wide tracks to assist. While attempting to dig out the Kranex excavator, the situation worsened, and the heavy-duty vehicle sank deeper and deeper, finally becoming stuck in the clay. The next day, the crew called a tow truck from the Transfom company, which attempted to pull out the fallen Kranex excavator with a winch, but the winch snapped when attempting to apply maximum load. A second tow truck arrived on the scene and was unable to fit in the limited space. As a result, the tow trucks began pulling in different directions with their winches, at a 45-degree angle, with no success. After discussions with several services specializing in heavy-duty towing, it was decided to involve the Spas-Truck 4x4 Off-Road Rescue Service. The maximum towing force during the towing operation with our equipment was approximately 75 tons.
