📖 Today’s Story: From Jang *-seong When COVID-19 first began, I truly believed life would return to normal after just a short while. I had been running a small shop for over ten years, and giving up was never an easy option. Although fewer customers came, my wife and I encouraged each other and continued opening our doors every day. But the pandemic lasted far longer than anyone expected. As social distancing measures continued, fewer and fewer customers visited. There were days when we kept the shop open from morning until evening and only welcomed a handful of people. The monthly rent, utility bills, and loan payments never stopped waiting for us. At first, we survived by using our savings. Then we cut back on every possible expense. We delayed closing the business for as long as we could because we desperately wanted to keep it alive. Eventually, though, we reached the point where we simply couldn't continue. I still remember the day I lowered the shutter for the last time. After turning off the lights as usual, I slowly looked around the shop one final time. It had been part of our lives for so many years that it was hard to walk away. As I quietly pulled the shutter down, the sound echoed louder than I had ever heard before. On the drive home, my wife and I hardly spoke a single word. That Sunday, we still went to church. Honestly, I couldn't focus during worship. Questions filled my heart. "Why did this happen to us?" "How are we supposed to keep living?" I closed my eyes to pray, but disappointment and worry came before faith. Over the next few years, I worked as a food delivery driver and later at an early-morning logistics warehouse. My wife found work at a restaurant. Every evening after work, we sat together, balanced our household budget, and slowly began saving again. Life was still far from comfortable. But we never stopped attending Sunday worship. We kept saying those words to each other. Not long ago, we finally signed the lease for another small shop. As I signed my name, I felt more nervous than excited. Fear was still there. But my wife's words of encouragement gave me peace. In the past, I often prayed for good business. Now my prayer is different. I pray that I can work honestly... that I will treasure every customer who walks through the door... and that my wife and I will never lose grateful hearts.
