MANILA, Philippines — The pronouncement of Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte is not a threat, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said. In a GMA News interview on Thursday, April 16, Remulla said Duterte’s pronouncements are not considered threats by authorities. “Supot naman talaga eh, puro dakdak eh, dakdak ng dakdak,” Remulla said. (He’s really just all talk, just yapping nonstop.) “If you want to lead the country, you have to be more statesman-like,” he added. When asked if there is a credible threat against the president, he said: “There is always a credible threat against the president. It will never disappear, whether it comes from that camp or any other camp. The President is the most protected person in the Philippines.” Remulla referred to remarks made by Duterte during his Reform Alliance for Good Governance and Accountability (RAGE) Coalition event in San Juan City on April 12. “Okay na ’yan. Siguro ’yung mga anak niyo makakapag-aral sa abroad. You can eat at very nice restaurants. Tama na ’yan. It’s okay. Isang ulo lang naman ang kailangan namin, ang ulo ni Bongbong Marcos!” Duterte said. This is not the first time Duterte has made such threats. In July 2025, Duterte challenged former Philippine National Police chief Nicholas Torre III to a boxing match. He accepted the challenge, turning it into a “charity boxing match.” However, Duterte did not show up.
