Joan Baez - Hickory Wind [HD]

Joan Baez sings 'Hickory Wind' from her 1969 Vanguard album 'David's Album'. This song was written by Bob Buchanan and Gram Parsons and is considered Parsons' signature song. It is nostalgic for memories of a simpler childhood over complexities of later life. Writer Johnny Rogan wrote of Parsons' recording of the song "What really makes the song, however, is Parsons' aching vocal performance, set against a superb steel guitar backing, whose whining combines with his yearning voice to create a mood of unbearable poignancy." This video of Baez' version moves slowly to try to capture some of that feeling. The scenic and city images are of South Carolina.
