OCC 2022 @UTMBMontBlanc

The OCC is a race 58km (on my GPS watch) & 3500m+ begins in Orsières (Switzerland) and spends most of its time on the Swiss side of the border, going for the finish over the French border and into Chamonix. It was hot, and the thermometer where reaching 30C on race day. It was one of the hardest races I have ever done. But also one of the most beautiful races passing through alp villages, mountain pastures, and with striking views much of the way. For me, I hand an easy trip to Trient and I felt strong and had a good pace. But then the climb to Col de Balme changed the race completely. The climb was brutal and technical (at least for me 😆). During the climb, the left calf began to cramp. This severe pain came and went for the rest of the course and I felt that the race was slipping away for me. When I arrived at Argentiere I was ready to give up. But I sat down for a while and decided to continue. Through the climb to La Flégère i was till in pain and fighting off cramps, but knowing I were almost done kept the spirits up. I reached the Finnish line and it took me several hours more than I had expected. But I’m really happy that I didn't DNF. Filmed on Insta360 go 2 Music by Epidemic Sounds
