Desperate locals battle deadly flames as MASSIVE wildfires scorch Spain
On Saturday, desperate residents fought to stop a wildfire from sweeping into their Spanish village. Armed with brooms, locals joined firefighters to beat back flames on the edge of Veiga das Mara in Vilardevos, Ourense. Soaring temperatures have sparked a wave of fires across Spain, with particular concern in Galicia, León and Cáceres, where more than a dozen active blazes are troubling authorities. Around 100 km (62 miles) away, near Carballeda de Avia, also in Ourense, towering columns of smoke were visible from the road. According to the Ministry of the Interior, more than 13,600 members of the State Security Forces have been deployed to tackle the forest fires.
