Hungary has revoked the refugee status granted under Viktor Orbán to Zbigniew Ziobro, Patrycja Kotecka-Ziobro, and Marcin Romanowski, announced Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski. Justice Minister Waldemar Żurek announced that he would ask the US authorities, where the Ziobro family is located, "whether individuals without valid travel documents can continue to reside in the United States." What does the decision by Peter Magyar's government mean in practice? According to lawyer Professor Marcin Matczak, the loss of refugee status automatically invalidates the so-called Geneva passport, which Ziobro was supposed to use to obtain residence abroad. This, in turn, would be an argument in favor of his extradition to Poland, provided the PiS politician did not obtain Hungarian citizenship during Orbán's term (his Polish passport was revoked). "Mr. Ziobro's refugee status is certainly worse now than it was before," concluded Marcin Matczak. In the next installment of "Tak jest" magazine, Agata Adamek (TVN24) and Jacek Gądek (Newsweek) expressed skepticism about the chances of Ziobro's speedy extradition from the US.
