It offers 28 semi-detached chalets facing the jungle, each with a private balcony. Built on 25 acres of lush, hilly land and completed in 2016, it's an eco-friendly resort that uses solar panels for water heating and provides biodegradable soap. Room types include family rooms and four newer units (completed in 2022) designed for guests with special needs. All rooms have air conditioning, a ceiling fan, TV, and hot shower. The resort borders the Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve and is only 10 minutes' walk from the Rainforest Discovery Centre. Shuttle vans take guests to the orangutan and sun bear centres, departing at 9am and 2pm, with returns at 11am and 4pm. A 1,000-foot boardwalk leads into the dense rainforest, and guided night walks are available after dark — where you might spot a green viper, slow loris, or even an orangutan. The resort also has an outdoor pool, a restaurant serving international dishes, and balconies for morning birdwatching. A notable highlight is the resident red giant flying squirrels that regularly appear on the property. It's a simple, unpretentious base that puts the focus firmly on the wildlife and rainforest experience around you. Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre The centre opened in 1964 as the first official orangutan rehabilitation project for rescued orphaned baby orangutans from logging sites, plantations, illegal hunting, or those kept as pets. It is located about 25 kilometres west of Sandakan in Sabah, Malaysia, on the island of Borneo. Owned and run by the Sabah Wildlife Department, the centre sits within the Sepilok-Kabili Forest Reserve, covering around 43 sq km. Facilities include a clinic, treatment ward, and nurseries. Today around 60–80 orangutans live freely within the reserve. The sanctuary has no gates or fences, so the orangutans are free to roam the jungle on their own — which means sightings aren't guaranteed. To maximise your chances, visit during feeding time at 10am and 3pm daily. In October 2014, a nursery viewing section was opened where visitors can watch younger orangutans learning to play outdoors on a large climbing frame, with indoor seating areas overlooking the play area. Visitors are restricted to walkways and are not allowed to approach or handle the orangutans, to ensure education doesn't interfere with the rehabilitation process. Join us for a look at the My Nature Resort in Sepilok, Borneo, the first of five lodges and resorts we are experiencing on our Malaysia travel adventure. This review highlights the serene jungle surroundings and sets the stage for our next video, where we will visit the orangutans. We hope you enjoy this glimpse into the wildlife and natural beauty of the Borneo rainforest.
