Temperature range: 65° to 85° F. Water type: kH 3-10; gH 4-10; TDS 100-300. Crayfish are some the hardiest freshwater specimens they are perfect for beginners as long as you put them in the right environment and with the right tank mates. Crayfish require an aquatic habitat. You should have holding tanks and habitats prepared before receiving your shipment. Use conditioned tap water, spring water, or well water. The water should cover the back of the animal, and needs to be no more than 15 cm (6") deep. I definetly recommend a lot more than that though. Most of them live up to 3 years, though some may live longer. Nonetheless there is more to keeping crayfish than just throwing them in the tank. Even though they live in mud when in the wild, ensuring that the creature is both healthy and happy at all times is very important. You must pay attention to several factors including, water chemistry and quality, whom they are sharing the tank with and diet. You must also understand that different species of the fish have slightly different needs, temperaments, and behavior.
