KDHS lecture Tue 25 Nov 2025: "The Ballads of Ireland and their History", by Morgan Roughan

The November 2025 KDHS lecture entitled "The Ballads of Ireland and their History" was given by Morgan Roughan at 8pm GMT on Tuesday 25 November 2025 in the Teach Ceoil in Kilrush. Morgan discusses the history of some of the well-known and lesser-known ballads relating to Kilrush, to County Clare, and to all of Ireland. In October 2025, Morgan stepped back as organist and musical director of Knockerra Church Choir after over 40 years service. Morgan has worked as an OPW tour guide on Scattery Island as well as at Listowel Castle. He has an MA in History of the Family from the University of Limerick. He has completed courses on Reading Your Local Landscape; on Writing for the Web; and on Regional TourGuiding and Irish Heritage, all run by the Limerick & Clare Education and Training Board. Morgan has spoken to the society several times over the years, most recently about his mother Cissie Roughan's life and career at the unveiling of a plaque to her memory on the Town Hall last summer.
