Climate Smart Flower Farming with Linda D'Arco of Little Farmhouse Flowers
Linda is farming specialty cut flowers in the northern Adirondacks not far from Lake Placid, New York. She moved into flower farming after a career in innovation and design-based education and communications. Over time, she learned to take advantage of observations of the wild, weedy meadows and thick forests near her property to align her farm's products with plant varieties that naturally thrive in her area. This environment-inspired outlook helps Linda and her team focus on high value crops that grow with relative ease and it distinguishes her offerings from other farms. Little Farmhouse Flowers also offers several educational programs to other growers and together with her business partner in Vermont, Linda teaches The Tulip Workshop and a (new) program called the Lily Workshop. All courses focus on season extension and creative knowledge-based farming approaches that are particularly applicable to cold climates. This webinar is part of a six-week production risk management series funded by a Northeast Extension Risk Management Education grant.
