Dr Safi himself a legendary surgeon, was trained by Dr. Michael E. DeBakey, and was an associate of Dr. E. Stanley Crawford. He took aortic surgery to a level that was unprecedented before. Similarly the other aspects of vascular surgery were mastered at the Vascular department in West Virginia university where Dr Azam Jan worked for many years. Another speciality that Prof Azam Jan specialise in is Chest(thoracic )surgery. Thoracic surgery includes treating conditions of the lung, esophagus and chest wall, cancers of the mediastinum, and diseases of the diaphragm etc. Prof Azam Jan did his thoracic training at number 1 ranked hospital in USA , University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and The Methodist hospital.
