He pulls the plug and leaves the Left Party. In this WI-Talk, Andreas Büttner, the Brandenburg state commissioner for combating antisemitism, discusses the superficial—and the deeper—reasons for this step. He describes a structural problem the party faces with antisemitism: the refusal to clearly name certain forms of Jew-hatred, the relativization of Jewish perspectives, and a political approach to Zionism that calls Jewish self-determination into question. We discuss what Büttner's break with the party reveals about the state of the Left and whether it is still a political home for democrats.
