🎙️ We Are All Able | Episode 31 Now On Air! हामी सबै सक्षम छौँ | ३१ औँ श्रृंखला This week’s 31st episode of the weekly radio program “We Are All Able” features Ms. Goma Thapa, the mother of deaf blind children. In this heartfelt and inspiring episode, Ms. Thapa shares her journey of raising her son, who was born under challenging circumstances. Due to his low birth weight, he remained hospitalized for a long period and required intensive care in an incubator because of prolonged oxygen support. Although his health gradually improved, the family soon faced another challenge - negative attitudes and discrimination from society. Having never encountered deaf blindness before, Ms. Thapa had to learn everything through experience while carrying the responsibility of caring for her child. She also shares how many social invitations stopped coming, as people hesitated to include families with children with disabilities. Ms. Thapa emphasizes that tactile (sensory) sign language is essential for communicating with children with deaf blind. She believes that with proper guidance and training in daily living skills, they can become independent and perform many tasks on their own. She encourages parents to remain hopeful, continue motivating their children and never give up. She also calls upon the Government of Nepal to provide greater support for deaf blind children, including personal assistants or caregivers, residential schools or daycare centers and employment opportunities for parents based on their skills and qualifications. She explains that parents often need to provide round-the-clock care, making it difficult to earn a stable income and increasing their financial burden. Furthermore, Ms. Thapa highlights the importance of celebrating international awareness days related to deaf blindness, as these occasions help raise public awareness and create opportunities for children who often remain isolated within their homes. She encourages all parents of deaf blind children to speak up, advocate for their children's rights and work together for a more inclusive future.
