Commercial Herring Roe Harvest

In spring 2022, we used part of our American Rescue Plan Act funds to purchase commercially-harvested herring roe on kelp from fishermen on Prince of Wales Island. Altogether, we bought and distributed about 14,000 pounds to our 21 Tlingit & Haida communities. The project is part of an effort to increase food security and provide people with traditional, Indigenous foods. Gunalchéesh, Háw’aa to the fishermen for their hard work and to all of our tribal citizens who expressed their gratitude for the roe.
