AMERICANS Retiring to 'Fitness Island' — Koh Phangan, THAILAND

This is my fourth trip to Koh Phangan and my second vlog focused on the island. I came for a health reset at a yoga resort www.theborderlessoffice.com #kohphangan #thailandvlog #lifeafter50 This time, I am documenting Chuck, a 54-year-old retired firefighter from Miami, and Scott, a 60-year-old former NASA physicist who was laid off in June 2024 and retired here on his savings. Scott sold his Los Angeles house and is living on 35 years of retirement savings. He does acro yoga most evenings. Kyle from Ohio runs Cyana Resort. Yaron, from Israel, opened Upside Bouldering after two years of construction. Chuck's selection process: eliminated South America due to crime concerns and language barrier. He chose Koh Phangan over Phuket and Koh Samui for its active-lifestyle community. His wife Celine is from Rio. The island's infrastructure is expanding: new sidewalks in Ban Tai, promenades under construction at the pier. Rent increases are pricing out budget travelers. The stereotypes are partially accurate. There is a significant Israeli community. The full moon parties continue. But there's a parallel fitness community—climbing gyms, yoga, paddle tennis, hiking groups—that most people don't associate with the island. I'm returning in March or April for one to two months to document the daily routine in more detail. Would you like to join me for a 10-day fitness retreat on Koh Phangan? I am considering organizing one for 8-12 American men over 50.
