The evolution of gymnastics: new skills every year but everything looks the same?
#gymnastics #sports #gymnast #new #skill #training #difficult #unevenbars The sport of gymnastics has drastically evolved over the decades — from routine compositions, to the type of skills we see, to the increased level of difficulty, to the Code of Points itself… but few events have changed as notably as the uneven bars. From the 50s, when the apparatus was similar to the men’s parallel bars but set to different heights; to the 70s, when the distance between the bars increased and gymnasts started taking more risks, experimenting with big release moves; to the 80s, when that distance grew even wider, allowing for new transitions between the low and the high bar; to the 2010s, when back-to-back releases and transitions became a common strategy to maximize the connection value. All these changes have opened the door to innovation and diversity, with multiple new skills submitted every year — more than on any other apparatus. In this video, we’ll take a closer look at the sixteen new uneven bars skills submitted in just the first half of the 2020s.
