Yüksel Özkasap (born December 28, 1945, Malatya) is a Turkish singer who became popular among the Turkish population of Germany in the 1970s and 1980s under the name "The Nightingale of Cologne." Özkasap went to Germany as a guest worker in the 1960s. In Cologne, she was discovered by Yılmaz Asöcal, owner of the Türküola Music record label, and became a recording star. She later married Yılmaz Asöcal. Yüksel Özkasap's more than 40 albums and nearly 500 songs explored the pain of separation and longing for Türkiye, expressing her longing for Turkey. The artist was so successful among the Turkish community in Germany that she received several gold records there in the 1960s and 1970s—although she remained virtually unnoticed by the German public. Her best-known song, "Gülüm," was written by a previously unknown composer in response to a newspaper advertisement. Her first single, "Gülom," was released.
