Nevada County - Independence Trail Hike
The hike follows the remains of a water ditch. The ditch brought water from the Sierra for use in hydraulic gold mining. Therefore, the level route follows the contours of the steep hillside above the South Yuba River. Extensive wooden trestles are the highlight of this trail. The dense woods along the ditch obscure the views of the river & surrounding mountains. Nevertheless, this is a unique and engaging hike.
