“I want to be a professional boxer… I want to be a champion so I can fully support my family.” 13-year-old boxer, Nong Khao, or Hasim Anai, a first-year secondary school student at Thaphae Phadungwit School, carries his dream all the way from Satun province. Nong Khao lives with his father, mother, and older brother. Every day, he helps his mother work from early morning, whether it's tapping rubber, bagging soil, or weeding. Currently, the main income comes from his mother alone, as his father has been ill for over 10 years with hearing loss and vertigo, making him unable to do heavy work. Another way Nong Khao helps his family is through boxing 🥊 Nong Khao started boxing when he was in the third grade of primary school, or at the age of 9. It started when he saw his older brother boxing and became interested. The turning point that led him to fully enter the ring was when he unexpectedly stepped in to fill in for a absent boxer, and his skills caught the eye of his trainer, Kru Samnao. The teacher then persuaded Nong Khao to join the Satun Provincial Administrative Organization's boxing camp. 100 baht was the first money he earned from his first boxing match. After 3-4 years of training, his fight fee is now 3,500-4,000 baht. From 29 competitions, Nong Khao has won 22 times, lost 6, and drawn 1. He also won the Southern Region championship in the 21 kg weight class, along with a trophy. 🏆 Today, Nong Khao will showcase his powerful kicks to earn money to pay off his family's debts.
