I tested the strength of the 2 by 4!
In this video I tested 2 by 4 boards to failure. First, I studied various engineering codes including the US, Canadian, and Eurocode. Each code has a similar design procedure for estimating the capacity of each board. In general the US and Canadian code agreed giving a capacity of around 300 kg for a European 2 by 4 loaded at mid-span. Interestingly the tests revealed a completely different reality.
