The author offers an alternative view: in a world filled with aggressors, criminals, and terrorists, the principle of non-resistance may not only fail to stop evil but actually encourage its further spread. Historical examples are cited in support of this argument, in which acts of mercy, trust, or forgiveness ended in tragedy for those who showed them. He examines the limits of forgiveness, moral responsibility for one's own safety and the safety of loved ones from a psychological perspective, and the role of force as a mechanism for deterring violence. The author draws on data from evolutionary biology, game theory, and criminology, arguing that the absence of the threat of retaliation makes aggression more likely. Particular attention is given to the psychological reasons why the idea of ​​"turning the other cheek" continues to be perceived as a moral ideal. The author links this to the human psychological need to feel morally superior, fear of conflict, fear of the use of force, and a reluctance to make difficult decisions. The psychological mechanisms by which non-resistance can be perceived as a virtue, despite its potentially destructive consequences, are analyzed.
