ROBERTO DI PALMA: el gran dibujante que diagramó todo
If you took a drawing to the offices of HORTENSIA magazine between 1983 and 1989, it was very likely that Roberto Di Palma would be the one to receive it. The magazine's director during those years, and also a key figure in shaping its visual identity, Di Palma, along with Gustavo Lesta—his predecessor and first layout designer—was one of those responsible for giving the publication its unique character, like a general store where you could find absolutely everything. In Viñetas con Más Chapa (Comics with More Showcase), we celebrate this giant of Cordoban graphic arts: layout designer, illustrator, comic artist, and, above all, a passionate artist. Although his love was always linked to adventure comics and serious narratives, it was in graphic humor that he achieved national recognition thanks to his personal style and a body of work that left its mark on several generations of readers. Born in Río Segundo, Córdoba, Di Palma developed an extensive career in the publishing world. His work in magazines like JERÓNIMO, HORTENSIA, ELECTRUM, and many others made him a leading figure in newspaper layout. But beyond that, behind every design was always the cartoonist: the man with the pencil, pen, and brush who found in each panel a new opportunity to tell stories and bring a smile to people's faces. Throughout this video, we explore a rich and diverse career, a true miscellany of anecdotes, drawings, magazines, humor, and comics, which helps us understand a fundamental part of the history of graphic arts in Córdoba and Argentina. And we also pay tribute to a person of enormous generosity. Because Roberto Di Palma didn't just create memorable pages: he opened doors. Many cartoonists saw their first works published in HORTENSIA and HOLA TÍO thanks to his trust and support. For all of them, Di Palma was much more than a director or an editor: he was someone who helped make the start of a career possible.
