At the beginning of September, we resumed the "Knowing the Scriptures" program with the new academic year, directed and presented by Beatriz Ozores, with the aim of understanding and delving deeper into the New Testament. One of the problems we often have when we approach the Holy Scriptures is limiting ourselves to interpreting them as only showing us the Law, without understanding that they tell us much more. They speak to us about putting our hearts into fulfilling that Law. That is why it is so important to know Jesus' parables, because they speak beyond the letter that writes them. "God wants mercy; he demands love from us. Not only to fulfill the law, but that what is written leads us to holiness," Beatriz points out. In his public life, in his interventions, Jesus insists on the conversion of the heart, not on the mere imposition of intelligence and simple observance of the laws. Jesus constantly tells us and emphasizes that heaven is not reached by those who simply follow the rules, but by those who add love, compassion, and mercy to their actions, and who strip away their ego, their ideas, and their reasons to become one with Christ; that is, those who act in truth and humility. The parables and Beatitudes spoken of in this chapter capture all of God's instructions and promises for achieving happiness, which have nothing to do with the ways of achieving happiness promised by today's world.
