🍳 A morning in Kuantan begins with a bowl of curry noodles. I originally wanted to find Sin's Bakery (Hainanese flatbread), but it was closed. So I went to Xiang He Tea House instead—Kuantan's "spicy representative" of curry noodles, competing with Hai Yan's gentle coconut milk pie. 🍜 Xiang He Curry Noodles (with noodles mixed with rice noodles): Rich coconut aroma, and a very satisfying spiciness. Lots of toppings—fried bean curd wrapped around meatballs, okra stuffed with meat, chicken, and fish balls. The homemade sambal sauce was very tender. One bite, and the morning drowsiness was instantly awakened. 🍞 Kaya Butter Bread: Thick round bread, toasted until soft, with melted butter seeping in, and the kaya sauce having just the right amount of sweetness, creating a rich and layered flavor. Delicious! 🐢 Turtle Rock (Batu Penyu): A rocky coastline north of Kuantan, almost deserted, like having the place to myself. The giant rock is painted with turtle patterns, lifelike. Legend has it that a giant sea turtle fought a sea monster to save all living beings. At high tide, it appears to swim, and at low tide, it lies on the beach. There are also small turtle rocks nearby. ⛵ Kampung Beserah (Beserah Fishing Village): I originally came for the fish market auction (Google says 10-11 am, locals say 1-2 pm), but there were few fishing boats during Ramadan. I only saw mountains of fishing nets, wooden boats on the mudflats, and a group of thin cats (one of which was a Siamese). I smelled salted fish, but didn't see any fish. 🐱 Cat Show: There were more cats than people in the entire fishing village; they were all thin but very energetic. 💡 Regret: I missed the fish market auction and didn't buy any seafood.
