Looking For Mr. Goodbar Movie Review
Based on the best-selling novel by Judith Rossner (which was inspired by true crime case of Roseanne Quinn), this critical and commercial hit from the late 1970s has been MIA on home video since its VHS and laserdisc release because of legal issues involving music rights - but thankfully resurrected by Vinegar Syndrome in a new 4K restoration! https://vinegarsyndrome.com/products/... (Not a paid promotion, this is my personal recommendation for this release) Looking for Mr. Goodbar follows a year in the life of Theresa Dunn, a young woman plagued by Catholic guilt and haunted by trauma from her disapproving family and childhood illness with scoliosis. By day, she's a compassionate elementary schoolteacher for deaf children, but by night, she cruises singles bars, picking up strange men for one-night stands. What begins as self-discovery devolves into a self-destructive spiral of compulsion, drugs and disco. Released by Paramount Pictures in 1977, Looking for Mr. Goodbar is adapted for the screen and directed by Richard Brooks, starring Diane Keaton in an outstanding performance as Theresa, Tuesday Weld (who received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role), Richard Gere, William Atherton, Tom Berenger, and LeVar Burton.
