Wild Swimming & Yurt Stay in Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan is famous for its Silk Road cities like Samarkand, Bukhara, and Khiva, but beyond the history and monuments, there are countless hidden gems waiting to be explored. In this video, we leave the cities behind to discover Lake Aydarkul, go wild swimming in the desert, and spend two nights in a traditional yurt camp. Lake Aydarkul, also known as the “desert sea,” was formed by accident in the 1960s when floodwaters from the Syr Darya spilt into a desert basin. Stretching more than 200 kilometres, it’s now home to birds, desert wildlife, and a surprising amount of fish. Despite its size, the lake remains unspoiled and peaceful. From the lake, our journey continues to a yurt camp in the Nuratau Mountains. Here we experienced nomadic hospitality, hiked through stunning landscapes, and enjoyed a side of Uzbekistan that few tourists ever see.
